What is the hardness standard of galvanized wire?

The use of galvanized iron wire in different industries requires careful consideration of its hardness. It is important to ensure that the wire meets the standard requirements before use. Therefore, one of the crucial factors to be determined is the hardness standard of galvanized wire.

The hardness of galvanized wire is a significant performance measure which can be tested in the most cost-effective manner. There is no universal definition for the hardness of metal materials, and various testing methods have been utilized both domestically and internationally. In general, the hardness of a metal is assessed by its resistance to scratches, plastic deformation, wear, or cutting.

During the commissioning process of galvanized wire, it is important to maintain the original speed and estimate the zinc immersion distance based on factors such as the steel wire diameter and the desired zinc immersion time. By adjusting the zinc immersion distance, the zinc immersion time for different specifications of steel wire can be reduced by an average of 5 seconds compared to previous setups. This not only reduces zinc consumption but also lowers the zinc consumption per ton of steel wire from the original 61kg to 59.4kg. Therefore, it is recommended to carefully consider the zinc immersion distance during the commissioning process to optimize production efficiency and reduce costs.

When it comes to galvanized wire, the process involves dipping the wire in zinc liquid that has been heated and melted. This method of production is not only quick but also results in a thick coating, though it may not be uniform. In fact, the market has set a minimum thickness requirement of 45 microns, but it can go up to 300 microns or more. The coating obtained through this method has a dark color and requires a significant amount of zinc metal to produce. On the positive side, it forms an infiltration layer with the matrix metal, which enhances its corrosion resistance. This type of galvanization is ideal for outdoor environments as it can retain its quality for several decades.
